REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Tuesday, July 24th

When: Saturday, July 28th from 12:30pm - 7:30pm.

For: Youth between the ages of 9-17 (must be at least 52” tall).

Drop off/Pick up: Minneapolis American Indian Center - 1530 E Franklin Ave, Minneapolis MN 55102.

Spend a day at Bunker Hills Stable learning about Native horse culture and regalia from visiting artist, James Star Comes Out.

Youth will work in teams with local artists to utilize symbols from what they learned to create their own designs that will then be painted on an actual horse. To ensure safety, there will be a lesson on “horse safety” instruction from stable staff.

Upon completion of painting the horses, the youth will then go on a group horse back ride, ending with a campfire and meal.

Requirements:

  • Must be between the ages of 9-17 years of age.

  • Must be at least 52” tall

  • Must be a good listener.

  • Wear good shoes such as sneakers - NO sandals or other open toed shoes.

  • Remember to dress appropriately based on weather.

Schedule:

12:30pm-1:30pm: Powerpoint presentation by James Star Comes Out at the Minneapolis American Indian Center.

2:00pm: Vans will depart for Bunker Hills Stable.

3:00pm - 4:00pm: Talk with James Star Comes Out and Orlando Frazier.

4:00pm - 6:00pm: Group will split in to two. One group will go horse back riding while the other works on painting their horses, then they will switch.

6:00pm - 6:50pm: Dinner and campfire.

7:00pm: Depart to Minneapolis American Indian Center.

7:30pm - 7:45pm: Arrive at the Minneapolis American Indian Center.
